Steve de Zwart

Edgewater Crew Coach
EHS Class of '77
Steve deZwart, EHS class of 1977, joined Edgewater High School as a rower in 1975 and later returned as a teacher and rowing coach. He helped secure four state championships and six Varsity 8 state titles by 2001. His extensive coaching career includes roles at Thames River Sculls, the US Coast Guard Academy, and Dartmouth College. A seasoned rower and educator, Steve has been involved with numerous national teams and elite programs. As a rower, he competed on the US National Team as a member of the men’s lightweight eight. More recently we’ve been lucky to have him as our Edgewater Masters coach. He continues to row and coach with enthusiasm. Steve lives in Winter Park, FL, with his wife Lisa, an Edgewater Masters rower, and their two sons.

Bill Palmer

EHS Class of '86
Bill Palmer, EHS class of 1986, is a distinguished Eagle with a strong rowing career. Highly competitive, he rowed in six state championship boats and served as captain his senior year. At Clemson University, Bill helped found the club rowing team which continues to compete today. After returning home, he has coached the Eagles multiple times while balancing family life and running a business. A dedicated Masters rower for over a decade, he was part of a national championship boat in 2013. In 2023, Bill was inducted into the Edgewater High School Hall of Fame.

Matt Collins

Edgewater Crew Coach
Matt Collins was a four-year rower for La Salle university Men’s rowing team. During his tenure, he competed in prominent regattas including the Navy Day, the Dad Vail Regatta winning gold, and the Kerr Cup winning gold. Additionally, Matt medaled at the Head of The Schuylkill Regatta, Knecht Cup and Bergen Cup and many others. Originally from San Mateo, California, Matt rowed at Junipero Serra High School before returning as an assistant coach. Matt joins us at Edgewater Crew to continue and build upon his coaching career.
